The village was refered in 1346 in document of M. Layras. Exists also in 1304
a report in settlement with the name "Kaminia", again in document
of M. Layras, but perhaps its sounds the same, unknown today, settlement in
the region Gomatoy. In any case in documents of Jc' of century the village is
many times entered with the form "Kaminia". Before the JD' of century
do not exist reports, only that clues, existence of settlement in the neighbouring
hill (vigla) Esokastron or Sokastro.
There existed temple dedicated in Saint Alexandros, residues of which are found
scattered here and there, in neighbouring pulleys, in the new church Saint Alexandros
, that was built in 1930 and restore in 1974 and in stockyards. In the ruins
of old church was found around in the 1880-1885 eminent column of Kaminion as
well as a second pediment column with signs in her four sides. It is characteristic
that this two signs before their transport in the museums, had place idolatrous
object (iconostasis) for the local, something that shows an ancient delivery.
Crylos says that the village initially was found in the beach of Voroskopos,
where indeed they have found Byzantine cemeteries of JA' and IV century. The
settlement and the harbour of Voroskopos are reported by the sightseers Buondelmonti
in 1418 and Laurenberg in 1650 with castle.
In 1685-88 while is reported the place Vrosco or Vroscopos, is not marked castle
or settlement. It appears that at the invasion of Enetians in 1656 was destroyed
also the castle of Voroskopos, with the remainder fortresses of island. In 1785
the castle was devastated. The name placeVoroskopos, at the M. Rokko, is ancien
greek. Emanated from the words wide aim and means locality with big, wide view.
In the region exists continuous presence of population from the prehistorical
years, as proved the archaeological hoe. There existed the prehistorical Poliohni, has discoveries of arhaic season
(graves, column Kaminion), classic period (vessels, signs, terms, k.a'.), hellenistic
years
(mirror seal) and roman currencies. Thus with safety we can conclude that afterwards
the residents of Poliohnis, for which became extensive report in the a part
of book, they were installed Pelasgos, and those they succeeded Athenian peaple
that lived so much in the Sokastro, what in the Voroskopo.
The residents continued living there at roman years and at the Byzantine years.
They maintained in deed the ancient monuments fitments in christian temples.
Depending on the conditions, previously you thicken the coastal settlement and
previously interior. The Voroskopos was abandoned finally afterwards the Enetian-Turks
wars of JZ' of century.
His destroyed castle, him you afterwards finish the big earthquake 1766. From
this season and main settlement they became the Kaminia. Older dated building
of village is the tap Mpampoum Tsesme (1847), while the holy temple of Virgin
Mary was built in 1852, above in the ruins older small church.
The name of village emanated from the existence kaminion, where were manufactured
earthen vessels, or were melted metals. The name place rather are Byzantine
and are the continuation of of the ancient Poliohni. The word Poliohni rather
emanated from the words polios-honi, and means the place that melts. |
